Apple is enhancing its Apple News+ service by introducing Apple News+ Food, launching in April as part of the iOS 18.4 and iPadOS 18.4 updates. News+ Food will be available to subscribers in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia
This new feature will provide subscribers to Apple News+ with access to tens of thousands of recipes and culinary content. Publishers including Allrecipes, Bon Appetit, Food & Wine, Good Food, and Serious Eats are all cited by Apple as being part of News+ Food.
Publishers who are part News+ Food should expect to benefit from curated stories from Apple News editors on restaurants, healthy eating and kitchen essentials among other topics, and users will be able to browse and filter recipes in the Recipe Catalogue, with new additions promised daily.
This update is geared towards News+ subscribers, which should mean there will be potential for an increase in News+ engaged minutes. Reader loyalty should also increase too as the feature becomes part of subscribers’ daily routine. Of course, free app users aren’t entirely excluded and will be able to access select stories and recipes.
The new Apple News+ Food section is designed, as is expected from Apple, to be a premium user experience – looking especially beautiful on iPad. Publisher branding is slightly different, with the title name appearing with each story card behind a block of colour which compliments the colours of the article image.
A standout feature will be the full-screen ‘cook mode’ which presents step-by-step instructions making it easier to follow recipes while cooking. Additionally, users can save their favourite recipes, including for offline access.
The launch of Apple News+ Food is another step in making Apple News+ a deeper and richer experience. Beyond culinary content, subscribers already have access to a diverse array of premium publishers such as The Atlantic, The Athletic and Hello!, a dedicated sports news section, audio stories and puzzles including crosswords, Quartiles and sudoku (although puzzles are currently only available to users in the US and Canada, and audio just in the US).
If you create recipe and food content and want to discuss how you can take advantage of the launch of News+ Food, you can schedule an introductory call with us.
No matter what stage you're at in your discovery of Apple News, we'll help you get the information you need to make the right decision for your media business.
